White windowboxes come at a price...

We have been searching high and low for a white window box at Garden Boutique. It is not an easy task, as so many white window boxes begin to look tatty and cheap after only a couple of weeks in the garden.

Finally, we have found a white window box that stands up to the task. The bad news is that it is not cheap. It seems perfection comes with a hefty price tag.

The good news is that these white window boxes are nigh on indestructable. The planters are colour powder coated as a whole single piece so that there are no seams or joints on the exterior surface into which water could penetrate. Then they are baked at 180 degrees centigrade to allow the powder colour to super adhere into the aluminium surface to create exceptional colour longevity.

Each white window box comes with a 16 year colour guarantee so you know it will look good for years to come.

Eco-friendly garden furniture and buying sustainable garden furniture

If you're looking for garden furniture for outdoor use, many people think oak or teak is your best option, but to ensure the wood has been sourced responsibly it should have the FSC mark and if you are looking for teak garden furniture, it ideally should be made from reclaimed timber, like this elegant bench

This reclaimed teak garden bench is delivered with a natural finish.
The teak will age elegantly over many years to a soft silver grey.
No need to oil, wax or varnish.

Teak is a great material for garden furniture but it can be hard to reconcile our demands for long life and beauty with the environmental damage of shipping something half way around the world. Reclaimed teak, from salvaged wood is clearly a more sustainable and eco-friendly alternative. In the garden or on the patio, it will last a lifetime so do your bit for the environment and choose from our recycled and eco friendly range of garden furniture.

GARDEN BOUTIQUE'S TOP TIPS FOR BUYING ECO-FRIENDLY GARDEN FURNITURE

1/Buy recycled garden furniture, or garden furniture that is made from reclaimed materials

Furniture made from recycled or reclaimed materials is clearly the most sustainable option. Garden Boutique have a great choice of stylish recycled metal garden furniture and wooden furniture made from reclaimed wood. These materials are already in circulation and so have a limited impact on the environment.

2/Buy garden furniture made from locally produced wood

There is no excuse for buying teak furniture (even if it is sustainably forested) when so much environmental damage is done shipping it halfway around the world. Choose English Oak from local managed woodland (FSC accredited), or if you must have teak, choose furniture made from salvaged or recycled wood.

3/Avoid oil based paints and stains.

Choose wood that is suitable for outdoor use without treatment such as oak, sweet chestnut, larch, western red cedar or douglas fir. If you must colour your wood, choose water-based products so that any wooden furniture can be recycled or composted at the end of its useful life.

Hanging windowboxes - adjustable hooks and window box brackets

Window box brackets back in stock. The full range of hanging window box brackets, wall brackets and adjustable window box brackets are back in stock at Garden Boutique.

Now that spring is beginning and the weather is improving, it is the perfect time to plant up your window boxes for spring. Choose from our popular aged zinc window box, stylish black terrazzo window box troughs or the classic galvanised steel window box.

We even have a limited edition range of bronze window boxes available this spring (while stocks last)

We have window box brackets to fit every window box in our range. Ring or email if you are having trouble choosing the right window box bracket for your window box.

There are two main options for hanging your window box. Choose either an adjustable window box bracket for hanging over walls, balconies or railings - or a fixed wall bracket for hanging your window box on a brick wall or fence.

Our window box brackets come in two sizes; standard (37cm long) and XL (60cm long)
If you have a long length of balcony to dress, we would recommend using the terrazzo windowbox with the XL brackets as these can be butted up close together to look like one long planter. This works because of the rectangular blocky nature of the window box.

The other styles of window box, such as the galvanised, bronze or aged zinc window box tend to best suit the standard window box bracket (37cm) due to their tapered shape.
